Guadalindie 2025: What to Expect From Málaga's Indie Game Fest!
Spain’s indie game scene is leveling up, and Málaga is right at the heart of it.
Spain’s indie game scene is leveling up, and Málaga is right at the heart of it. Guadalindie, the up-and-coming indie game festival that impressed audiences in 2024, is making a confident return with a bigger, more ambitious edition set for May 16–17, 2025. This year's event will feature over 80 indie games, more than 30 hours of talks and workshops, and appearances by some of the most intriguing figures in the indie space.

For many attendees, Guadalindie is more than just a chance to play demos. It’s become a vital platform for creators, critics, and players to connect around the shared passion for games that challenge convention. The 2025 lineup includes internationally known creators like Keita Takahashi, famed for Katamari Damacy, and narrative design pioneer Sam Barlow, known for Her Story and Immortality. Their presence signals that Guadalindie is no longer a regional curiosity but a serious cultural event with international resonance.
One of the festival’s biggest strengths is its focus on accessibility and diversity. Many of the featured games come from developers based in Spain and Latin America, and the programming makes space for voices that are often underrepresented in larger game expos. From experimental art games to polished commercial indies, the showcase reflects a wide spectrum of styles and stories.
Workshops and panels will dig into everything from the business of indie publishing to the emotional labor of solo development. There’s also an emphasis on community building. Guadalindie organizers have created networking events designed to connect devs with collaborators, publishers, and press without the overwhelming pace of larger conventions like GDC or Gamescom.
Málaga’s growing role as a European tech and design hub also helps. With its mild climate, rich culture, and thriving creative scene, it’s an ideal home for a festival like this to flourish. As the indie game industry looks for more meaningful, human-centered events, Guadalindie is setting a new standard.
